After months of planning, today we are proud to announce that the San Diego Sharks are one of the founding teams helping to relaunch the United States Basketball League (USBL).
The USBL, which served as the premier talent development league for the NBA throughout the 1980s and 1990s, went dormant in 2008 following the passing of its founder. Today, the Sharks are among 15 founding teams across the country working together to relaunch the league, honor its legacy, and set a new standard of excellence in minor league basketball.
Sharks fans can look forward to an elevated level of competition, featuring both familiar rivals such as Long Beach and Bakersfield, as well as new challengers including Las Vegas. The upcoming 24-game 2026 season will showcase the most diverse home schedule in franchise history.
